Why Do We Wear Glasses? Do We Need Glasses Cases?
Modern eyeglasses are made from a variety of materials ranging from metals to plastics. The frames are mostly supported at the bridge of the nose by plastic pads and also two arms extend over the ears so its important to protect eyeglasses with suitable glasses cases.
The lenses are placed in front of the eyes and are worn to correct the vision of the eyes and also protection of the eyes in the case of safety glasses. Eye glass lenses are primarily manufactured from polycarbonate plastics. The advantages of plastic lenses outweigh those made of glass. The main advantages are that they weigh much less than glass and provide better protection of the eye than glass. There are also many optical properties such as better light transmission and greater absorption of ultraviolet light. Corrective lenses are used to correct conditions such as nearsightedness (myopia) and farsightedness (hyperopia).
The lens power is normally measured in diopters. Glass lenses treating myopia will have a negative diopter strength, and lenses correcting for hypermetropia will have a positive diopter strength. Prescription lenses, made to match to the eye sight deficiency are left to the prescription of an ophthalmologist or optometrist, who then prescribes the lenses, which are then verified correct using a professional lens meter. These prescription glasses are usually made by a qualified optician.
Magnifying lenses or generic reading glasses that are used to treat mild presbyopia and hyperopia can be purchased almost at any retailer. Although such glasses are generally considered safe, an individual prescription, as determined by an ophthalmologist or optometrist and made by a qualified optician, usually results in better visual correction.
