Can Emerald Green Cory Cats survive alone?

i went to petsmart today and was told cory cats can be kept alone, or in schools, so i got one and he is really shy so far, just sitting on the bottom not moving much. it’s petsmart dumb? because i’ve read numerous articles now that say all cories including emerald green’s should be kept in schools. does anyone have any information or insight? should i get a couple more or will the fish be ok in a matter of time.

Can they be kept alone? Yes, they’ll survive, but they will be under constant stress and you are less likely to see them active and “happy”. When kept in the proper shoals (at least 3 of their own species), they will exhibit more natural behavior, be more outgoing, less stressed, and will bring you much more joy with their personality. I would suggest getting 2-4 more as soon as possible.
