Is this real?

I heard to break a glass you need to match the pitch. I have a crystal glass and I want to try! How can I find out how the glass vibraes. I tried hitting with a spoon but that doesn’t help. I tried wetting my finger and wipping it around the rim of the cup, but the rim is an octagon shape and makes no sounds. Is it possible and how can I find out how fast the glass in vibrating?

You need to match the resonant frequency of the glass, but you also need a large enough amplitude (i.e., volume) to get violent enough vibrations.

You might find out the resonant frequency (pitch) by striking the glass with a pencil or something. Hanging it from a string could help, because it might be dampened by whatever it’s sitting on.
